Here's the first and second Alfa Spiders that we owned. The black car was
a 1988 Graduate named "Gloria." Brewster found it at an auto auction while
looking for a Corvette. He has never lusted for a Corvette since! The car
looked great but didn't drive great off the auction lot; it had shot motor
mounts. A few hundred bucks later it was a happy car. The Graduate was the
base model; vinyl seats, manual windows... but it had the exact same mechanicals
as other Spiders of the era! Brew drove this car from 58,000 to about 80,000
miles before selling it locally. He added a CD player and "Turbina" Campagnolo
alloy wheels, an option on '70s and early 80s Spiders that we're partial
to on these later models. This is the car Brewster was driving the first
time Sherry laid eyes on him... the rest is history!
In contrast, the silver car was a "Virgin"
found out in Chicago. It only had 19,000 miles. It looked museum-new! Since
she was a 13 year-old Virgin, we named this saucy little lady Lolita! The
Quadrifoglio was a top-line Alfa, the first to top $20,000. It was distinguished
by its body cladding (love it or hate it) and lovely Porsche-esque wheels.
Also it had a full leather interior, great stereo, red carpeting even in
the trunk, power steering, etc. A great car! We drove it to Atlanta and back...
then sold it to a fellow who had had the same car but lost it to a crash
that was not his fault. It was wonderful to see his smile upon re-finding
his car, still like new at 13 years old!
The engine is like new and runs great. The dash shows the 22,000 miles
on the car as of July 8, 2000, and the leather steering wheel.
Below right, note the trunk-mounted Audiovox 10 CD changer. The Quadrifoglio
special edition includes 15-inch alloy wheels, badges, and red carpets...
...plus grey leather seats with red stitching.
GOD WE MISS THIS CAR!!! Actually we miss both these Alfas. But every one
you sell brings you closer to your next!
