This 1991 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce belongs to our friend Chris, who bought it from one of the area's top Alfa specialists last year and must sadly sell it now due to having moved into the city. This is a top-of-the-line model, loaded with options including a Kenwood CD stereo, 15-inch alloy wheels, and power steering. This was the first year of Pininfarina's stunning redesign of the Spider. This garaged and pampered car has only 57,500 miles and is in excellent shape. There are no dents, dings, or rust. The roof is like new (black cloth). The paint is not original but is in fine shape and looks sharp. The fine condition and low mileage make this a real collector's item. An equivalent new Spider would now be $35,000 +... if they still imported them, which they don't (Alfa will reintroduce the Spider here in 2004). Asking price is $11,500; contact Brewster Thackeray, 703/319-1637, or brewthack@aol.com. The pictures below are a good introduction to the car but I can take and send others!
While the front of the '91-94 Spiders is Classic Alfa, the rear was where Pininfarina made its biggest breakthrough--replacing the rubber spoilered 1980s design with a most sensual decklid. The car's proportions are just delightful! Chris's black cloth top is in nearly new condition and will last many years.
One thing that is never perfect on Spiders of this vintage are the seats;
the suede design isn't as durable as leather. This car's seats are in average
shape, and are super-comfortable! The A/C works well and will keep you
from sweating. The five-speed makes this car enjoyable the way it was meant
to be. This is the peppiest Spider I've driven and I've driven a lot of
'em!!!
The heart of the Spider is the 2-liter DOHC engine. This one runs as good as it looks, and it looks like new! Here's the left and right side perspectives.
The trunk is nice and clean, ready to pack up your vacation duffle and hit the road!
